THE EXTENDED FAMILY OF CHARLEMAGNE IN THE CHANSONS DE GESTE

(Relatives who don’t figure into the storylines for The Admiral of Spain or The Four Sons of Aimon haven’t been added yet, and it was a BIG family so the majority aren’t shown here.  See Charlemagne’s historical family tree for a better idea.)

As always, comments and suggests are more than welcome.

NOTE:  Charles Martel had a younger sister who married the Duke of Mayence.  They had several children, the oldest of which had a son named Ganelon who has now claimed the title.  Aloys is the son of one of their daughters. Both Ganelon and Aloys are therefore second cousins of Charlemagne.  Due to the difference in ages between the various generations, however, Ganelon is a full 7 and Aloys 12 years younger than the King.
