Once there was a rabbi as famous for his stories as he was for his wisdom. He traveled up and down the land, and wherever he spoke the people went away wiser.
Finally, a group of other rabbis went to him with a question. "We teach people the word of God, direct from the Torah, but they never seem to learn. But when you tell these little tales they come away with a true understanding. Why should that be?"
"Well," he said, "that reminds me of a story."
"One day Story, dressed in his magnificent clothes, came across Naked Truth weeping by the side of the road.
"'Truth,' said Story, 'why do you weep so?'
"'Oh, it's a terrible thing,' said Truth. 'Every time I visit a house they welcome me at first, but as soon as I begin to speak they turn me around and throw me out the door. Nobody wants me!'
"'Oh, that were easily solved,' said Story. So he dressed Truth in beautiful robes of parable and fable, and ever since then Truth and Story have been welcome, together, wherever they go."
