Hear A Sample Story

Anything marked as a "Teaser" is an excerpt from
a longer story. You'll need the RealOne Player to
listen, which you can obtain for free from www.real.com.

Needleworker's Curse (Teaser) . This is an excerpt from a longer tale about an event in the history of Castle Plumov, in Moravia. My wife translated it for me from a book of Czech ghost stories and I took it from there. You can hear the complete tale on my CD "Glory, Fate & Fear".

O'Driscoll and the Host of the Air (Yeats Poem) . A poem by William Butler Yeats. Thanks to Sean Miller for telling me about it.

The Two Brothers Who Shared A Farm . This is, in my opinion, one of the great short stories of the world. I understand that it's at least 5,000 years old, and I've made a game of asking people why they think it would last that long and what it's really "about." The true answer may lie in the fact that I've gotten at least 20 different responses, all of them viable. Enjoy. I've transcribed a written version of this story which is available at the "Read a Sample Story" page.

Reese Jenkins (Teaser) . This is an excerpt from an original ghost story set in the coal country outside of Pittsburgh. Did you know that the Winter of 1898 really was the hardest one on record? They found ice in the Gulf of Mexico that had floated all the way down the Mississippi River.

Roland and Ferragus (Teaser) . Did you know that there were more stories told about Charlemagne and his knights in medieval times than there were about King Arthur, and that they were much more popular too? I've made something of a hobby of digging out and refreshing these stories. I even have a book out telling one of the longer tales. This is my version of the classic knight-and-giant encounter.

The Artist's Tale . Did it really, truly happen in just this way? If you went back in a time machine and watched, is this what you'd see? No one can say. It's enough that it could have happened. [I've transcribed a written version of this story which is available at the "Read a Sample Story" page].

The Wish of Daniel McDermott (Teaser) . Excerpted from an original tale on my CD "Glory, Fate & Fear." He was quick, McDermott, I've said as much before . . . But not quite quick enough.

Thomas Glam (Teaser) . If there's ever a "Scott's Greatest Hits" album, this story will undoubtedly be on it. This is an excerpt from the version on my CD "Glory, Fate & Fear." There is a parallel written version (structured as a newspaper column) available at the "Read a Sample Story" page.
