A past President of Pittsburgh's guild of professional storytellers, Story Swap, Scott is widely known as one of the most accomplished "classical" storytellers to be found. He uses no puppets, props, music or other gimmicks to distract from the experience; this is pure storytelling, the bare, essential magic of voice, nuance, gesture and ear.

One day Story, dressed in his magnificent clothes, came across Naked Truth weeping by the side of the road. "Truth, why do you weep so?" "It's a terrible thing," said Truth. "Everyone I visit welcomes me at first, but as soon as I begin to speak they turn me about and kick me out the door. Nobody wants me!" "Oh, that were easily solved," said Story. So he dressed Truth in beautiful robes of parable and fable, and ever since then Truth and Story have been welcome, together, wherever they go."

Why Concentrate On Adults? I have two children of my own and I love kids in general. I tell for them all the time, too. I've probably done hundreds of K-3 level shows over the years . . . Nevertheless, there's a unique reward in telling for adults. Well-told stories have a power that nothing else can touch. Conversations tell about what happened; a few skilled presenters can show what happened; but only the fictive dream of a story can draw the listener through what happened. And what might have happened, should have happened, or could have happened. People who hear a well-told story vanish inside it in the same way you get lost in a book. Too many adults have forgotten what that's like, and it's my special joy to watch as they relearn it.

Savona the Monk, who is now roasting in hell, set his heart on a life of Virtue and never once told a lie, not even in jest. One day, after seeing their helpless victim run past him and hide, Savona, sitting where the two rivers meet, answered the thieves: "That way."
Good Saint Martin was meditating before his cave one day when a traveler slid past him with terrified eyes. "Don't tell them I'm here!" he gasped. "I'll do what I can," said Martin, "but I cannot tell a lie." The thieves arrived a few minutes later and demanded, "Where is he?" Martin looked deep into his bowl and said, "He's not in here." And off the robbers went.

THE MIRROR OF GOD One day the Creator conceived a desire to see His own reflection, and so He built a great mirror and held it up before His eyes. No mirror can hold the image of God, though, and so it shattered into millions of glittering shards that sprinkled across the world. And thus came all the Peoples of the Earth.

What Do You Charge? Fees are negotiated case-by-case and depend greatly on the circumstances. I make my living as an attorney rather than as a storyteller, which allows me to offer a reduced rate for business-relevant events such as fundraisers, trade shows and charitable affairs. By the same token, I will almost never promise to appear at a given festival for several weekends in a row because professional concerns may interfere. If I can't help you directly, I'll be glad to refer you to other tellers who might fit your needs more closely.
Please call or write to discuss the specifics or make a booking. My contact information appears immediately below.
